Frequently Asked Questions

Children who want to learn to read, write and speak Marathi are welcome. You do not need to speak Marathi at home to join — beginners are placed in Balwarg.

Balwarg usually starts around age 5. Older children are placed in a level based on a short assessment of their reading and speaking ability.

Classes are held weekly during the school year. See the Classes page for the current time and location for each level.

Yes. Greensboro Marathi Shala is run entirely by parent and community volunteers.

Registration opens once a year. When it is open, the registration form is available on the Admissions page. Outside that window, use the enquiry form and we will contact you.

Mid-year admission is possible when space is available. Please send an enquiry first.

Annual tuition per student is $50, which includes books, events and activities conducted by the school. Additional amounts may be collected if required, and parents will be notified in advance.

No. We need help with teaching, classroom support, events, logistics, communications and more. Training and curriculum materials are provided for teaching volunteers.

Yes. For the safety of our students, every volunteer who works with children completes a background check before the school year begins. The link to the background check form is included in the volunteer sign-up form.

Most roles need a few hours a week during the school year. Event roles are seasonal.
